Also known as Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy, this specialty focuses on using pure oxygen for various medical purposes. These therapies are performed in pressurized chambers specifically designed to deliver oxygen to the patient in a controlled manner.
In a hyperbaric chamber, the air pressure rises more than in normal conditions (approximately 1.4 to 3.0 ATA, at Costamed, we have a capacity of up to 6 ATA). At this pressure, the lungs can breathe more oxygen. This treatment has anti-inflammatory effects due to vasoconstriction, stimulating the immune response, and increasing blood flow in poorly irrigated tissues under normal conditions. This treatment also promotes detoxification, increasing energy at a cellular level.
This specialty has become quite popular in recent years among divers due to its enormous contribution to combating decompression syndrome, a condition that can be fatal. Additionally, hyperbaric medicine has been shown to have extensive therapeutic benefits for burnt skin.
