The main function of the nutrition department is to treat the complete spectrum of nutritionally related medical problems of hospitalized patients, as well as provide complete nutritional assessment to any outpatient that requires it. 

The nutrition department accomplishes their objectives by performing the following activities:

  • Nutritional assessment of hospitalized patients.
  • Interconsultation of hospitalized patients as solicited by their physician.
  • Review of diets indicated for each hospitalized patient.
  • Nutritional support for the bariatric surgery patient.
  • Nutritional support for the intra-gastric balloon patient.

In order to have a healthy life style it is important to have a healthy weight, avoiding being overweight or obese. Obesity is when the extra weight surpasses the normal bodily limits. We know this by the BMI or body mass index. To determine the BMI, you divide your weight in kilos between your height squared (meters).

How to read your results:

  • BMI under 18.5. Underweight.
  • BMI between 18.5 y 24.9. Normal Weight
  • BMI between 25-30. Overweight
  • BMI between 30.1-35. Moderate Obesity
  • BMI between 35.1-40. High Obesity
  • BMI over 40.1. Morbid Obesity
